The shapes of the aurora were originally hand drawn, flipped, and a shape tween was created from one shape to its streched reversal. At this pount there were some points in the middle of the tween which looked too mechanical A few ellipical pieces were cut out of selected frames, the blur filter was applied, and the result is what you see here .
